When God Used a Beetle to Quiet my Chaos
by Margo Henderson
I have many jobs and events that I schedule throughout my day. Shopping,
meetings, phone calls, and events with grandchildren. No week is the same, and
I love to keep myself busy.

Often, I sit on my porch for my quiet time to write my lesson plans for Sunday School.
One morning, as I sat on the porch, I felt lost on the details and the reason for the lesson. Sometimes Bible stories have multiple turns that can take you in multiple directions. I can get lost easily
in doing a word search.
I was distracted by a beetle that was turned over on its back. His arms and
legs were flailing and his body was moving around in circles. I thought “This
looks like me right now. I don’t know how I got here on my back.” I could flip him
over or just smash him so I wouldn’t be distracted. I turned him over with my
paper, only for him to get back on his back. I spoke to the beetle (yes, I did talk
to him) and tried to tell him if he would just relax, he could go back to his simple
life.

Then I saw the correlation.
“God, would you help me not to get so flustered with my activities?
Would You help me focus on this for Your purpose in this lesson?
Would you quiet my struggling mind and focus me on your reasons for this lesson?”
The words started to flow. The lesson was complete. At least for now I’m on my
feet walking forward.
Thank you Jesus for turning me over and redirecting my thoughts and mistakes
with Your great gentleness. Even though I might run in the wrong direction or get
turned around, You accomplish Your purpose in me.
