Meet Lorie
Lorie Newman is a woman making a difference.
Lorie has worked with various Christian ministries such as FamilyLife Today’s Hope For Orphans, Children’s HopeChest, and Orbie for Orphans. Many who know her say Lorie’s life encompasses Matthew 25 where Jesus talks about feeding the hungry, caring for the sick, clothing the naked, inviting the stranger, and ministering to the prisoner. Her heart beats for the needy. She is the founder of an orphan ministry which feeds and disciples over 250 eSwatini African orphans.
Because of her tireless work, Lorie was featured on Moody Broadcasting Network’s Midday Connection during their “Women Making a Difference” series. Following the release of her first book, “A Cup of Cold Water in His Name” (Discovery House, 2012) Lorie was an invited guest on many national and international radio talk shows including Focus on the Family, Java with Juli Slattery, The Debbie Chavez Show, Moody Radio South, USA News Network, For Faith and Family, Daybreak USA, and Seattle’s The Spirit Radio.
More About Lorie
Lorie is a frequent speaker at Christian retreats and ministry events, and has taught Bible studies and led prayer groups for more than 20 years. She’s making a difference on the home-front too, where she is the mother of eight children and grandmother to an ever-growing number of little ones. Her children’s ages range from 31 down to age 9 – six biological and two internationally adopted.
The 2018 suicide of her 15 year old adopted Liberian son, Daniel, led she and her husband to start a 501c3 nonprofit, Anointed Life Christian Equipping, Inc in 2023. Through Anointed Life, Lorie teaches Spiritual Warfare conferences and retreats to women’s groups, couples and small groups as well as provides mentoring opportunities to women, young adults, and couples. Daniel’s suicide and his battle with spiritual oppression have given Lorie personal insight into Spiritual Warfare and a profound passion to teach warfare to others.
As a freelance writer, Lorie has written dozens of articles that have been published in various magazines such as The Huffington Post, On Mission Magazine, Hearts at Home, and Proverbs 31 Woman, as well as the FamilyLife Today blog. To help mobilize others into action, she wrote her first book, “A Cup of Cold Water in His Name: 60 Ways to Care for the Needy” (Discovery House, April 2012). In it, she shares creative and practical ways we can help the needy in our everyday lives –the homeless, the single parents, the hungry, the impoverished, the thirsty, the prisoner, the widow, the foster child, the abused, the foreigner, and the destitute.
Some of Lorie’s most rewarding writing has been to help create and write Christian curriculum for unadoptable orphans.
Lorie earned a B.A. in Education from Augusta University and she resides with her family on their homestead near Savannah, Georgia.
Anointed Life Christian Equipping
In the weeks and months following Lorie’s son’s suicide, she learned quickly about Spiritual Warfare from the Bible. As she studied God’s Word and received teachings from mentors and other authors, she always chased the teachings straight back to the Bible. God put her on a “rocket ship” of learning about weapons of spiritual warfare.
Currently, Anointed Life Christian Equipping provides Christ-centered teaching, equipping and mentoring to women, couples and individuals in a relaxed setting through retreats, day conferences, and workshops. Events take place in churches and retreat centers for larger groups, and even in host homes for smaller groups.
